How to Check a Partner's Social Media Anonymously
If you're going to check, the two things you probably care about are: they never find out, and you don't have to do anything shady to do it. Both are possible, within limits.
Anonymous by default
Viewing someone's public profile, followers, following, or posts doesn't notify them. Instagram has no 'someone looked at your account' alert for public data. So checking public activity is inherently anonymous; there's nothing to hide because there's no trace on their end.
Where anonymity breaks
- Following/unfollowing them yourself, that's visible.
- Viewing their story from your logged-in account, they see you in the viewer list.
- Requesting to follow a private account, obviously not anonymous.
The safe way to check follows
Snoop Girlies keeps it anonymous because you never log into Instagram and never interact with their account. You enter a public username, and it reads the public following list. They're not notified, and your search isn't visible to them.
Stay on the public side of the line
Anonymous checking is fine when it's public data. It stops being okay, and stops being legal, if it involves their passwords, their private messages, or accessing a private account. Keep it to what anyone could see and you stay on the right side of both.
